If you’re reading this newsletter in your inbox, it’s because you previously signed up for the Just Packed newsletter. I recently migrated the contact list over to Substack, so you’ll be receiving my biweekly packing lists from this address instead.
What changes? Not much — except you’ll now be able to easily access our archived packing lists on Substack. In the meantime, let’s dive into what I packed for a recent trip to Switzerland, where I was on assignment for this Travel + Leisure piece.
In mid-September, I spent five nights in Geneva. Every person I talked to apologized for the weather that week (classic Swiss politeness). As I kept telling them, no apology was necessary. It had just turned slightly chilly, and I wholeheartedly welcomed the crisp autumn air. I was also overjoyed to debut some of my fall clothing.
While I was in the city for the majority of my trip, I did manage to make it out to the Alps over the weekend. Admittedly, my leggings and barn jacket did quite cut it for the ice storm I experienced atop Glacier 3000… but everything else I packed was perfect for a European fall.

Layer-able turtleneck
Long-time Just Packed readers will know that a turtleneck is my essential travel top in the fall and winter. Equal parts casual and put-together, it’s one of the most versatile shirts you can pack.
Boxy button-down
The same thing rings true for an oversized button-down. I’ve been wearing this machine-washable Madewell one on repeat.
Sleeveless turtleneck
When the Geneva temperatures reached the high 60s during the day, I reached for this sleeveless version instead.

Elastic satin pants
I classify these as the perfect dinner pants. The wrinkled look is purposeful and hides any additional wrinkles from your suitcase, and the elastic waistband ensures comfort (even after the dessert course).
Denim trousers
I’ve been a big proponent of denim trousers lately. They’re much more elevated and interesting than a classic straight-leg style.
Black jeans
I always throw on black denim when I want to wear something slightly dressier than blue jeans. I wore these to the cocktail bar at The Woodward.

Incredibly comfortable loafers
I always ignore anyone who tells me to travel in loafers or flats. I cannot stand the blisters that ensue. But these Veronica Beard loafers are soft enough to wear comfortably right out of the box.
Black boots
Long gone are my days of wearing uncomfortable heels, especially when I’m traveling. In the fall and winter, I usually go for heeled boots instead. I’ve been loving this pair from Loeffler Randall. The leather is soft, and the heel is the ideal height.
Sneakers
Geneva is super walkable, and these held up for both city adventures and my day out in the mountains.

Waxed Jacket / Leather Jacket
I technically only needed one jacket on this trip, but I had just enough room in my suitcase to bring options. I wore my eBay find barn jacket on the plane and folded my leather jacket (similar style above) in my personal item.
